TERLARANG are a fastcore band from Malaysia on the political side of the hardcore spectrum, which I can always appreciate. Granted, fastcore isn’t usually my bag, but I can appreciate it in small bursts such as their side of this split. It’s not obnoxious like powerviolence, and the songs don’t all sound the same. The vocals remind me of CRUCIAL UNIT, although with more blast beats. Anti-society and anti-authoritarian lyrics make this one a surefire winner.
On the flip side is Greece’s JAGERNAUT, who play gruff crust-core, very much in the style of DISRUPT. No lyrics are included, but considering the political landscape in Greece right now, it’s fair to say that these punks fall into the anarchist camp (the song titles, “Hatred”, “Voice Less Leaders”, and “Dead Sect” give that impression as well). JAGERNAUT only play three songs, but they all fucking rule. I also hear some mid-90s Montreal crust creeping in here – GLOBAL HOLOCAUST, specifically. That ain’t a bad thing.
I always like it when two bands who sound very different put out a split together. It goes to show that the spirit of DIY crosses silly subgenre borders. This is a killer record for sure!

Jagernaut (from Greece) kick this split off with
filthy d-beat hardcore bordering on grind that
reminds me a lot of Doom (the band, not the
genre...)!
Terlarang (from Malaysia) play awesome,
psycho fastcore/powerviolence with chaotic
vocals similar to Hellnation. Fuck yeah!
